Seoul, July 22 – Hyundai Motor Group, including Kia, saw a 60.8% increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales in the United States during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), combined sales of Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the US reached 61,843 units from January to June 2024, up from 38,457 units in the same period of 2023.

Total sales of EVs, plug-in hybrids, and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) by Korean brands in the US market grew by 46.4% year-on-year to 72,528 units, KAMA reported.

The combined market share of Korean EV brands in the US reached 10.2% in the first half of 2024, up 2.8 percentage points from the previous year.

Hyundai Motor and Genesis together sold 32,592 EVs in the US during the first six months, a 32.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This was driven by strong performance of key models such as the Ioniq 5. Kia’s EV sales jumped 111% to 29,251 units, fueled by robust demand for models like the EV9.

Among individual models, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 ranked as the fourth best-selling EV in the US with 18,728 units sold. Kia’s EV6 and EV9 secured the 10th and 11th spots respectively, with 10,941 and 9,671 units sold in the country.
