MOSCOW (FFN) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Tuesday that Kyiv will not renew its gas transit agreement with Gazprom once it expires at the end of this year. This decision was reported by TASS.

“The agreement with Russia will not be renewed, period,” Zelensky stated during a press conference. He emphasized that after the contract expires, Ukraine will decide on the transit of Russian gas through its territory to Europe in coordination with the European Union (EU). “If there is interest from other companies or our European partners, we will consider their requests together with the EU,” Zelensky added.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal previously mentioned in March that Kyiv is open to continuing gas transit to Europe, but without a direct agreement with Moscow. He suggested that European countries could purchase gas before it enters Ukraine’s transit system, effectively making Ukraine a technical provider of gas transit for the European market.
