Moscow, August 11 (TASR) – Russian energy giant Gazprom plans to deliver over 39 million cubic meters (m³) of gas to Europe via Ukraine on Sunday. A company representative reported that the gas will flow through the Sudzha transit point in the Kursk region, according to the TASS news agency.

According to Gazprom, the exact volume of gas to be delivered on Sunday is 39.3 million m³, which represents a slight decrease from Saturday’s delivery of 39.6 million m³. However, compared to the average volume in August, which was above 42 million m³, this marks a more significant drop. Gazprom also noted that nominations for the Sokhranovka transit point were again rejected.

On Friday, Gazprom spokesperson Sergey Kupriyanov highlighted that ongoing conflicts near the Sudzha station have already led to an increase in natural gas prices, including liquefied natural gas (LNG). The price of the benchmark European gas contract for September delivery on the TTF exchange in Amsterdam exceeded 40 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh) on Thursday, marking the highest price recorded this year.

Russian gas deliveries through Ukraine have significantly decreased since May 2022 when the Ukrainian pipeline operator GTSOU halted gas transit to Europe through the Sokhranovka transit point due to force majeure. The decision was made after Ukraine lost control of the station located in the Luhansk region.

According to the latest data, the price of gas on European markets varies depending on the exchange:

  • Price on the TTF exchange in Amsterdam for September 2024: €40.35/MWh
  • Expected price for October 2024: €42.10/MWh
  • LNG price on Asian markets: €45.60/MWh

The situation in energy markets remains tense, especially amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and uncertainty about future Russian gas supplies to Europe.
