Sotheby’s auction house is moving its Parisian headquarters to a new location with significantly more space. Situated at 83 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the new venue was formerly home to the esteemed Galerie Bernheim-Jeune. The move is scheduled for mid-October 2024.
This expansion reflects Sotheby’s commitment to the French art market. The new headquarters will boast over 10,800 square feet across five floors, offering 30% more exhibition space than before. Additionally, it will feature:
- A cafe and a wine cellar with a tasting area
- Year-round events like master classes, auctions, and dining experiences
- “The Salon,” a dedicated space for luxury items with fixed prices
- Rooms for private sales
- Flexible areas for events like concerts, conferences, and fashion shows
- State-of-the-art equipment for showcasing a diverse range of art and objects
The building retains restored Art Deco elements while incorporating modern amenities and ensuring accessibility. Notably, over 15 miles of cable will be installed to guarantee robust digital connectivity. Public access to exhibitions and auctions will be free.
Sotheby’s France president, Mario Tavella, emphasizes the move’s significance: “This underscores our commitment to France and highlights the growing importance of the French art and luxury markets to our company.”
This relocation aligns with Sotheby’s broader strategy of expanding its global presence. They will open a new Hong Kong location in July and relocate their New York space to the Breuer building in 2025.
