Cape Canaveral, September 7 (FinanceFlashNews) — SpaceX plans to launch its first uncrewed Starships to Mars within two years, aligning with the next Earth-Mars transfer window, according to a report brought by Reuters. This announcement, made by Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, on X (formerly Twitter), marks a significant step toward the company’s long-term goal of interplanetary exploration.

“These initial missions will be uncrewed, designed to test the reliability of landing on Mars intact,” Musk stated. He added that if successful, SpaceX plans to launch its first crewed missions to Mars within four years, with the broader goal of building a self-sustaining city on the Red Planet within the next 20 years.

In April 2024, Musk had previously estimated that the first uncrewed Starship would land on Mars within five years, followed by humans two years later. This revised timeline indicates accelerated progress in SpaceX’s Starship program.

In June 2024, SpaceX achieved a milestone when a Starship rocket completed a hypersonic return and successfully landed in the Indian Ocean, proving the rocket’s potential for interplanetary travel.

Musk envisions Starship as a versatile spacecraft capable of transporting people and cargo to both the moon and Mars, with the ultimate objective of establishing a self-sustaining human colony on Mars.
